You don't think blower or N/A cars at that level can't or have not done the same thing?

Re: Why I'm not a fan of nitrous...

No I don't.. with a blower, good luck getting that magnitude of an explosion through the rotors, and with N/A good luck getting that much air and fuel in the intake manifold. That on an N/A car is called a backfire. On a nitrous car, its called a car bomb! Not saying a bad explosion can't happen without nitrous... but nitrous sure invites it a heck of a lot more than a blown or N/A car.

Yeah, with a blower car you just have to deal with massive hurtling razor sharp blower rotors and the shrapnel from the case. I have a good friend who lost an eye due to a piece from the exploding case of an 8-71 blower. That guy was a fool for putting that much nitrous through a plate kit, i've seen a lot of nitrous backfires and nothing from a direct port kit will come back that bad. Common sense would have saved his car.

This is funny because I can't tell you how many guys I know that don't even run nitrous that rave about how nitrous will blow you up. Well all I can tell you is that you have to be smart, its the dumb ones that usually blow themselves up. Why because they don't follow the rules. Once you start getting over a certain amount of nitrous (like a supercharger) you have to start beefing up the engine, then theres the timming and fuel issue. The problem with nitrous is that it is a lot easier to overdue it. GTstang is right, once you start getting into extreme hp levels be it nitrous supercharging or naturally aspirated. All can become dangerous because of the power your making. The only difference between nitrous and a supercharger is the way each of them get more air into the engine. One does it manually and the other does it chemically. Abuse either one and you invite the big bang theory. A little common sense goes a long way.

Re: Why I'm not a fan of nitrous...

Fair enough, you are entitled to your opinions.. I didn't post this to start an arguement, just a cool(?) video, showing how dangerous nitrous CAN be... I never said blowers or N/A were safe, just nitrous is much more dangerous in my opinion. Obviously, if it is safely used and nothing goes wrong with your ignition, it's not dangerous at all. But when something goes wrong, it goes very wrong. I don't think anything like that will come from a backfire from a N/A car. There just isn't enough air and fuel in the intake. For a blower, once the compressed air in the intake blows up, theres no more compressed air. When a nitrous set up goes, the nitrous is still spraying after the initial explosion. Anything improperly done will be dangerous. Hell, a flywheel is probably more dangerous than nitrous.. With nitrous, your engine explodes and you get a nice big fireball, but you should still be able to get out of the car with most of your skin... blow up a flywheel without a scatter shield and there goes your legs. When a big heavy flywheel lets go, nothing is stopping the shrapnel. One of my friends told me a story of his buddies clutch letting go(it was no top fuel dragster either).. One of the pieces bounced off the ground then came up through his engine bay, ricocheting its way to the hood, which it went right through, and landed a long way away. EASILY can reach the stands flying well fast enough to kill someone. Hey, maybe my posting that video will make someone uneducated about nitrous think twice about putting a 250 fogger shot on his ill prepared engine... Thanks all for your input. Sorry it got so off track(did it ever have a track?)
