Post Exhaust opinions....

I'm planning on investing on an exhaust system for my '96 civic EX that won't burn a whole too big in my pocket. I like the Racing medallion & fireball style exhausts but I really can't afford $500 right now. I've been looking into the OBX brand catback exhausts but to tell yous the truth I really never heard much about them. Is OBX any good in performance and sound or am I just looking in the wrong direction.

If I'm heading the wrong way please give me any suggestions that you may have and I'd greatly appreaciate it.

Peace....

I would go with a Greddy Evo or Apexi N1. I've installed both of these systems and am very impressed with both of them. However, I would suggest just buying the muffler and then have custom piping ran for the rest of the exhaust system. Increase performance and save $$.

What do you think of the Apexi N1 exhaust? Sound and performance wise. I have a Greddy Evo and have never seen anyone with an Apexi N1 exhaust before.

I have the N1 it's very nice. Kinda on the loud side but who's complaining? It has a nice deep growl.

i'll look for some dyno charts for the Apex-i N1 exhaust, but a power increase is definetely noticeable. Personally, I prefer the sound of the N1 over anything else that I've heard. They'll hear you coming.

I've ALWAYS said...custom pipe (2.25" for N/A) with no resonator and a nice muffler.

If you go with alluminized pipe with mandrel bends and a muffler you should only spend about $300.

DragunFire mufflers come with a life time warranty (no rust or internal damage) for about $199 shipped.

See the DragunFire @ Praxis

The N1 exhaust is annoyingly loud. I'd say get the Greddy Evo - it's only loud when you want it to be (at w.o.t). The only downside is that everybody and their brother has this exhaust, but there is a reason for that.

It all depends on what you want. If you are going for sound, go for either the Greddy Evo or the Apex Dunk. Dunk cat-backs go for about $350 on www.groupbuycenter.com

If you want performance, stay away from greddy... Multiple dyno's on Greddy have shown a 1.5hp top-end increase, and at best, 3hp mid-range. Apex N1 and HKS Hiper both do etremely well on the dyno, but cost a little more. I've seen an 8hp increase top-end on a stock d16y8, SOHC VTEC 6th Gen for the HKS Hiper.

The other option, like stated above, is custom cat-back. If you choose this, make sure you are getting manderel bends, not crush bends. Also, make sure the muffler shop is reputable and has done many before, or else it'll end up scraping and it will be ugly looking. For the muffler, I'd consider Skunk2, Apex, or HKS.

ANOTHER option would be to get an axle-back exhaust for now, then when you have the money, convert it to cat-back. I paid $200 for my Tenzo-R axle-back, and it works great for an NA tuned car, which doesnt NEED a full cat-back like FI engines.
