Question 02 GTI 1.8T vs 02 SE-R Spec-V

ok my last post didnt do so well so i narrowed it down a little to what i might buy. come on guys. need the info. which is better OVERALL for daily city driving and rare weekend night racing. no mods til next summer and which is most reliable even after mild modifications(exhaust, intake, cams, headers, ECU, etc). i'm keeping it for like 6 years before my next car. so which is best.

I got to go w/the VW Golf 1.8T...0-60mph in 6.5 seconds (source: current Car & Driver)...the Spec V probably handles better but the Golf at 22K is not a bad car (price as tested by Car & Driver)...the Spec V's HP is a bit over-rated...and not as fast as Nissan said it was going to be. The 1.8T has good potential and is a good car...go w/it!!!

but the se-r spec v comes in at 17g's as tested. and it was a solid second place. soooo its really the best bang for the buck and motor trend gave it the highest overall rating which means it won.

4 drs sedan vs. 2 dr hatch

I gotta go w/the more sport like car. I know the Spec V is an awesome buy...but the VW has more potential and therefore can go the distance...

GTI 0-60 in 6.5s? carpoint.com says around 8.1s. and they got the specV in at like 8.2s. i think these times are for the nonskilled shifters like me. hehe. anyway do u think the Turbo in the GTI lowers its reliability and durability cuz i plan to have the car for years. and also wut kind of maintenance does it require? sorry bout all the damn questions but im clueless.

well if you want your turbo to last all you gotta do is put a turbo timer on it and try not to run it in the summer as often. and the usual change your oil every 3000 or so miles and it would last as long as any good n/a engine would.

Yeah it's in the current C&D if you want to check the times on the 1.8T Golf...

Yeah...treat the car right and you will have a great turbo car for a long time.

well i just talked to my cuz and he said the SpecV is a nice stock ride and i usually listen to him because he's driven about every import out there. he always buys one then trades it in for a new one. he was gonna get the SpecV but decided on trading his civic SI for the WRX instead. i cant afford over $19.5k so i gotta go with the SpecV.:sun:
