Air Silencer?

I was told today that my mustang had an air silencer. He said that if i removed it, i could gain up to 10Hp. I was wondering, if it were to be removed would any "check engine" lights come on or is there anything negative about doing this? I also wanted to know if it does not cause any damage to my motor, how can i take this out? Thanx for the help.

Air silencer in located in the stock air filter box going out into the fender. Take but a minute to get out.... I'm sure it helps flow but 10HP is very optomistic.

Re: Air Silencer?

Does the air silencer just pull out or does it need to be cut out, also i heard that i can't pull it out the way it is, i mean, it has to be taken out thru the fender well. If so, how can i do this?

nO, NO LIGHTS WILL COME ON.....

Just yank it out and put a K&N Filter charger kit on it (from www.Summitracing.com)......if you order the kit (56$+) it will have instructions with it how to do it.

It is cosmetic at best and will get you a max of 5 hpmabey 3-4hp but Better air flow means better performance and better engine life.
I got 10-12 hp because I put the K&N filter on the end of my "boot and did not put it in the fender, just let it hang in front of the passenger side of in front of the engine but near the ground to get max air..

Your basically taking some "strain" out of your intake area by allowing more air in.

this isn't for a 2003, but it will still give you the basic idea:

Re: Air Silencer?

Air silencers are junk, and a waste of money that Ford decided to put into the cars because some people thought it was the noise the air made was annoying as the motor was rev'ed.

Re: Air Silencer?

booyah, cept i am a hypocrit cuase i havn't even taken mine out yet...the reason i am concerned is that it leaves that huge hole open to underhood airs which is pretty hot while even if the air silencer is restrictive, it still does take it cold air from the fenderwell

The removal would get a few at max, I personally didn't notice a difference, but then again i have a 99 v6 auto. some car mag took a bullet mustang and did some light mods, but said they didn't notice a difference when they took the silencer off. Myth or Miracle, you decide.
