build up... the most serious parts
ok. here is my plan. i want to buy a B18C1 engine to swap into my 95 civic ex. i also want to turbocharge the engine at some point.
now i have been looking around for parts and whatnot and i read articles about building up an engine. heres the thing. what kinds of parts should i get. i see all motor applications at like 11 - 12 second daily drivers. now i'd imagine with turbo you'd get more out of this or no? i'm not the biggest motor head. i know in's and outs.. barely enough to get by. and my moms boyfriend is a mechanic and he's build racecars before (domestics though) so anyway... i want to take this new b18c1 and ALL NEW internals pistons, rods, valvesprings and everything else i of course didn't mention. what are good brands of items? i want everything. is spoon good for camshafts and sprockets? what about intake manifold? header? most power gains is all i'm looking for really. FULL build up of the engine. i need expertise.

You're asking WAY TOO BIG a question. Although you enthusiasm is appreciated, it's clear that you need to do a lot more research first. Actually, as most experienced engine builders know, the place to start is with a budget. How much can/will you spend. Going fast is purely a matter of money.
You might get a good start by reading "High Performance Honda Builder's Handbook" Volumes I and II by Joe Pettitt, and "Civic Duty: The Ultimate Guide to the World's Most Popular Sport Compact Car - the Honda Civic" by Alan Paradise. All three are available at www.amazon.com fairly cheaply. You'll then need to make a plan - start with a budget and a tq/hp/rpm goal. Then start listing every single part and every single labor operation that will go into your new engine (use Excel or other spreadsheet) - start estimating the costs and keeping track of the total. That way you can play with cutting a few bucks here to spend a few more there, and still try to stay within budget. You may have to increase your budget or cut back on your goals at some point; but that's OK, it's an iterative process. Once you've got the preliminary plan - you'll be able to ask a lot more specific questions i.e. ones that we'll be more able to answer. |
