how much hp does gm 8100 engine make?

does anyone know how much hp the 2001 8.1l 496 make? is it a worthy engine to swap into a 4th gen(assuming i find a way to fit it in there)? and is a 4l80e a good transmission for performance?

Well that's a truck engine and tranny. 320hp and 440ft/lbs of torque. With some modificaiton it has the potential to be a good hot rod engine. But it's got plenty of torque to get you off the line. As for the tranny, it's not a performance tranny. It's good for truck business. I'd go with the 4L60E.

the 96-99 gmc vortec engine is a 350? how much hp does that make?

if your talkin about the 5.7 thats a 345. and the horsepower varies depending on the vehicle and the application.


that 8.1 is a beast if i remember right it tows 15,000 lbs. it wouldent be that hard to fit in a camaro. and i hear alot of hype about that 4l60e tranny but the one i got in my blazer is a peice of crap. its gone out twice already and its starting to hesitate bad .


also this is way off topic but does anyone know how to replace the ball joints on a 97 blazer 4x4?

haha i have to replace my ball joints on my bronco, you gotta remove the steering knuckle spindle assembly and all that, im jus gonna wait and do mine when i put the lift on it

ive actually heard of a few people swapping their 4L60e's out for a 4L80e because it'l handle way more power... No, its not a performance tranny, but it'l take that 440ft.lbs without a problem.. I'de go with the 4L80e and just get it built up a bit... Shift kit, servo, bands, the usual..

just askin cuz i saw a 8100 w/4l80e, for $1200, was wonderin why its so cheap for a 496 w/ 35k miles. i suppose a cam should change the truck attitude of the engine. 4l80e is a heavy duty 4l60e, but is it heavier or is it the same size as the 4l60e?

8.1L is a 502 i thought?? anyway, the truck engines are for the 5.3 230hp, and for the 6.0 liter, 300hp i think those are right.

close... 496... and the new one on the suburban has 340hp and 455tq. wats the 96-99 suburban engine w/ vortec heads put out? thats a 5.7 i believe...

yeah as far as truck engines go you got the 4.8 with 285, the 5.3 with 295 and as dude said the 6.0 with 300.

i gotta replace mine now and i dont know how to do it...if it were the engine i could fix it but i dont know shit about this kind of stuff....i was driving down the road at about 35 and the upper ball joint just snapped and sent me skidding to a stop. blazers are good lil off roaders but they break to damn much . got it on jacks in the driveway waiting to figure out how the hell im gonna fix it.
