In progress - 1/24 Nissan 350Z

Tamiya 1/24 Nissan 350Z in Silverstone color

I just painted the body with gunmetal Tamiya acrylic paint - yes acrylic paint from the bottles - which is a great match for Nissan Silverstone. Because it's a metallic color, the shine isn't very good. I'm just waiting for another few days for the paint to fully dry before I hit it with some Tamiya TS-13 Lacquer clearcoat. Kinda dangerous to use Lacquer on acrylic, but I think it's worth the risk...

It will be basically box stock except for:

-Bronze colored 19' Volk CE28 Wheels
-BIG Brembo crossdrilled and slotted disc brakes on at all 4 corners (takes about 15mins to fully drill out all the holes with a pinvise)
-Maybe some sponsor logos (*big maybe, dont want to rice it out)

*sorry about the pics, they're a bit blurry

Looks good from here.
Don't worry about painting lacquer clearcoat over acrylic. I did the same thing with my Volvo 850 wagon.

Clearcoated - Tamiya TS-13 Clear kicks so much ass

Today, I applied Tamiya TS-13 Clear onto all body colored surfaces. It was risky applying lacquer over the acrylic gunmetal paint (Tamiya bottled type), but it turned out very well.

The can was heated up in hot water and shaken for 2 mins, followed by a quick swirling of the mixing ball around the bottom of the can.

For the mist coats, I held the can about 9 inches away and moved the can quickly.

1st mist coat - very very light, made the paint appear dull

2nd mist coat 5 mins later - very light again, started to get some shine

3rd mist coat 5 mins later - light coat

4th coat 10 mins later - held the can closer by 2-3 inches and paint began to get glossy

5th coat 15 mins later - held the can about 7 inches away and pressed down on the nozzle at full blast. I key of this final step is to have the paint completely wet. Having a light shining while you work is essential to guiding you towards spraying the sufficient amount.

Looks great and I totally agree on your method for painting. Do you have any photos of your pinvise and drilling technique for the brakes? Would like to see that.
