IM REALLY CONFUSED ABOUT MY 2000 DODGE NEON. IT KEEPS SHUTTING OFF AFTER I STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, OR COME OFF THE FREEWAY. IT FIRST CHOKES OR COUGHS LIKE ITS HAD ENOUGH AND THEN SHUTS OFF. A FRIEND OF MINE TAKE IT TO GET IT TESTED. WELL WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH THAT COSTS. AT LEAST A $100 JUST TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I HAVE HAD THE FULL INJECTOR CLEANED ON IT. THAT TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR TWO WEEKS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS AND IM AFRAID THE PROBLEM WILL GET WORSE. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO COULD SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS? OH YEAH, ONE MORE THING. WHEN I'M AT HIGH SPEEDS THE CAR ALSO JERKS. THANKS... |

Re: 2000 Dodge Neon Shuts Off?
Try changing your fuel filter. I had the same problem with my 95, and when I changed my filter it took care of it. Think about getting a Haynes repair manual too. They have trouble shooting sections that will help shed some light on a lot of problems.

I think the ignition coil will cause that problem too. The filter is cheaper though, but if you get a coil and that doesn't solve it you should be able to return it.

No problem. I was thinking about that today. I was lucky. In the first gens the filter was mounted beside the tank. In the newer ones, you have to drop the gas tank and open up the top of it where the lines go in. The filter is in there with the float. I feel bad for you. It's a pita to do yourself. By the way, firsttimer95 is now FuriousMachine95. Like I said in my last post, get a haynes repair manual for your car. They have step by step instructions to do that and much more.

Pull out your yellow pages and call around and get a few quotes. I've never taken my car to a dealer so I don't know. I try to do everything I can myself anyway. Sometimes dealers tend to jack up prices though. It shouldn't cost that much either way. A couple hours labor and it's done.
