What to watch out for.
I'm looking into getting an S13 hatch. Are there any common problems i should be looking out for when buying? I don't mind fixing things but I'd like to know what i need to keep an eye out for. Thanks for the input.

Re: What to watch out for.
look out for ford probes. imagine yourself driving home with your new 240sx fastback to find out you really bought a probe

So the 240sx has no common problems?
if so this only reinforces my choice to get one. |

Re: What to watch out for.
pretty much no problems. its just like any other car and theres nothing that stands out machanically that you gotta watch for (like a rotary engine).
the only thing that sucks about 240's is normally the previous owner didnt take care of it, leaving you to be hasseled.

Re: What to watch out for.
GO FORD PROBE!!!
but don't you think some people can tell the difference between a gay ford "anal" probe and a beautiful 240sx?

Re: What to watch out for.
just get a mechanic to look at it, or test out everything and look at everything, crawl under the car and check every little thing...things go bad here and there it just depends on the previous owner and the location of the car....i.e. snow and salt = rust

Re: What to watch out for.
Rust under the rear spoiler and the timing chain. Maybe take it for a drive and see how it runs. Especially the idle.

Re: What to watch out for.
"Rust under the rear spoiler and the timing chain." Yep. Both problems in my car. timing chain rattles and is makin a grove in the engine top...i'm just lettin it wear down til i can save up about 5000 to buy an sr20 and other components that come with that new engine. lucky to have a parts car to get the hatch from to fix the rusted body. well, look for dents, scratches, that sorta thing...actually get a mechanic to check EVERYTHING, specially the fluids and electrical. my previous owner didn't even change the oil the whole time he had it (maybe 2 years), let alone anything else important, so a lotta stuff needed to be replaced (speakers and radio fuse blown, tires, fluids, water pump, power antenna, stuff like that). It's not fun fixin something only to find another thing in the car needs to be fixed.
Gettin a used 240SX isn't very economical if you're not lucky. I say if you're a new driver just buyin the s13 240sx cuz you just wanna drift, you're lookin at the wrong car. you GOTTA know how to take care of cars. i was able to manage the cost of doin most of those repairs cuz i did most of them myself w/ a service manual (your best friend). cept for the tires. treat this 240sx well tho and you're lookin at a great car. i wouldn't buy any other car right now (cept for the s14 240sx, haha). |
