Unhappy 93 Lumina Heats up when breakes applied

My 93 3.1 L lumina Eurosport heats up when the brakes are applied when stopped in traffic. The alternator also turns off and produces no voltage. The car also idles funny, you can see the needle is not steady.I need some help on this one anyone.
