Question Turns over but can't get spark

I know that this is a fairly open ended question, but here it goes.

I have been working on a 93 Pontiac sunbird for the last 7 months.

One of the major changes was that I swapped the motor about 3 months ago. The previously enjoyed motor that I put in was running before I switched it to my car, and now it turns over and I get no spark.

I have been searching for the problem for the last couple months and have come up with nothing.

Does anybody have an idea on how I can track this problem?

Thank you for your wisdom

there are alot of things to check for spark. forst, do all of the cylenders lack spark? check the plugs, wires, coil pack(s), fuses, and all wiring going to the coil(s). if you still have no spark on all plugs, check the camshaft position sensor and the crank case position sensor. these should come up under trouble codes if you take the car to a dealership and get it perfessionally scanned.

Re: Turns over but can't get spark

I have a '93 'Bird and have run into a few problems like this myself.
For one-ya need to check the grounds for the ECM and ignition (if you have the 4 cylinder-it's on the starter side of the block where the negative battery cable goes).
Check your crank position sensor-they're known to crack in half-check to see that the wiring is good to it.
Too wide a plug gap can kill that integrated coil pack on the 2.0L, believe it or not.'
Check the power leads going to the coil(s).
Something could've gotten pinched/broken/shorted during the install.

The scanner will NOT diagnose ignition electrical problems that I know of-it will only see what the ECM sees from it's sensors.

Another thing-if you swapped to the V6 from the 4 cylinder-you hadda change the ECM-make sure all the connectors to it are tight and straight-the PROM chip could be loose or not seated correctly.
Take it out and give it a good slap-if that doesn't make it rattle(meaning the chip fell out and you have to put it back in now), then that may reseat it anough to tell you something (that's how the pros do it).

I have a '93 ragtop 'bird with the 2.0L/auto.
If you went to the 3.1 V6, contact me at [email protected] with '93 'bird in the subject-I got some questions for you.
If you got the 2.0L, talk to me-I've been all through mine and I know it like the back of my hand.
