A FAIR price on an 89 4x4?
I have a chance to buy an 89 Chevy 4x4 reg cab short bed. It needs a little work. Brakes need overhaul, there is absolutely NO rust, needs a new hood, needs a silinoid for front 4x4, and I will probably need new exhaust in time. All of which I can do myself so LABOR charges are out of question. It will need paint to be a sharp truck. He wants 1500 cash. he started at 1800 but now he is at 1500. The interior need a real good cleaning and probably a few pieces here and there.
It would be a project and a daily driver. He drives it 50 miles at the minimum per day now with no smoke or oil burning. Thought I might get a few opinions. To me its a great feal. |

sounds like a good deal. but here is where people stick you. did he say it needed a solenoid? the transfer case may be going out or gone and he said that to make you think it is a cheap fix. i was going to buya 4wd and it didnt have the front drive shaft in and the guy said it just need u-joints. so on the test drive i took it to my job (parts store) and put some u joints in and the 4wd wouldnt work. he said he never tried it so he didnt know. i told him to keep the u-joints. a few days later the guy posted the truck in auto trader and said it just needs u-joints to work. But for 1500 you cant go wrong even if it doesnt work. i would buy regardless of the status of the 4wd and hope you get lucky and he was telling the truth.

This guy lives 4 houses up from me and I see him drive it daily. I think he is the type of person who wont fix something til he has to. He is selling the truck to fix the tranny in his newer Ford.
I backed out once and he took out the for sale sign saying he was going to use his tax return to fix the ford. But I sent my kid down to ask if its still for sale and he told my kid thatit is but only to me since he made a deal with me in the first place. So that to me sounds like an honest guy. Even if it came to be more of an expense other than the solenoid it will be worth it to me. Its hard to touch any good running chevy with no rust for 1500 not to mention its a 4x4. I think I am goingfor it I just have to wait for my check. I will let you all know how the truck does for me. |
