idle speed control

Two months ago and 4 thousand miles ago I replaced the idle speed control after it was diagnosed by the dealership as bad. Nearly all of the miles I have put on the engine were interstate. Now the damn thing is reving only in nuetral from approximately 1000 to 1500 rpms. I have been told it is the computer making this thing go bad along with a couple other less likely explanations. I have a datalogger and I understand that I should be able to see if a sensor is going bad. The program says MMCd on my palm pilot. I cannot seem to figure out how to test this sensor. Does both the computer and isc need replaced, just isc, or could it be something else. This type of bs is common with my car so it could very well be something very unlikely. Thanks in advance!

Nate

It's Idle Surge, and the ISC can be one cause of it, but there are many others

Stupid satan did not even know what i was taking about, when i told them i had idle surge, even when I explained it to the guy.

Re: idle speed control

When I took out the ISC but left it plugged in, the shaft does not move in and out. The whole thing rattles and clicks and shakes and makes all kinds of noise but the shaft doesn't move. I will check the ohms on the coils. Great info ASHAH000. Thanks

Re: idle speed control

Actually I did the work. It is complicated. The guy that I bought my car from has a used car dealership and he sells dsms, stealths, mustangs- arguably...performance cars. He has a bunch of these gst's and gsx's laying around-some junk, some for sale, and some junk for sale. He told me to save money on the ISC and buy one from a Hyundai. So I did ($140) and it worked fine for awhile. When I was on a road trip I had the cruise set at about 80 or 85 and I pulled the shifter out of 5th without using the brake or clutch like I do all the time. But with the cruise set the computer tried to compensate for the loss of speed and the engine redlined for about 3 seconds before I shut the motor off. It hasn't run right since.
