Can you tell me how it shifts?

Is the slr all automatic, or is there paddles? If none of those is it stick shift?

The SLR comes with a 5 speed automatic AMG SPEEDSHIFT R
with three modes, M/manual, C/comfort, and S/sport
there are shift buttons on the back of the steering wheel
right for upshift, left for downshift

Sport Mode is the automatic mode

Comfort mode for slippery road

Manual mode is manual, you have to shift manually using the button behind the steering wheel

And there is three modes under Manual mode
I,II,III, sport, super sport, and race mode


or just remember sport mode is the regular mode

and when at track, u switch to Manual mode

You aren't quite correct there.

Comfort is for everyday use when you want the car to behave like a mercedes, and abide by the speed limit. In this mode, the car is still fully automatic and changes gear at low revs. This setting also sofens up the suspension.

Sport is also a fully automatic mode, that is designed for the moments when you need (or want) power quickly, but still in normal driving contidions. Basically, when you want the car to behave more like a McLaren. This setting holds the gear further into the maximun tourque range, and firms the suspension allowing greater acceloration and handeling abilities.

Manual is mainly for track and competition use, and in this mode you are able to red line the car, and be in total controll.

This is, for the most part, wrong. The "S" & "C" buttons for the transmission are ONLY for the tranmission. Sport mode will not stiffen the suspension and comfort mode will not soften the suspension. There are seperate buttons for suspension adjustment.

Comfort mode starts the vehicle in 2nd gear to decrease the torque delivered the wheels. With vehicles that have these amazing power figures 1st gear can give you quite a snap to your neck. Starting in 2nd gear (comfort mode) basically tames the car into a comforatable, every day, driving machine.

...which is what I said. When I drove one, I definalty noticed a change in the suspension between C and S. And indeed M for that matter.

what is it with car manufactures now creating so many options for gearboxs, steering etc. why have 3 options for the paddle shift why not have 1 well set up gear box, or just give a manual!..apparently the buttons are crap because you tend to hit them when turning a corner on a track or on a roundabout!...the new m5 is another car which has too many electrical options on the gadgets to make sense.
