My 1997 328i convertible died this morning in the bitter cold. I have oil leaking bad from what appears to be somewhere near the left front wheel well. Also oil coming out the exhaust. I let the car warm up for 15 minutes and just had the oil changed at the dealer a couple of weeks ago. Please someone tell me (honestly) that the engines not dead. Any thought on what could have happened? Also blew a LOT of white smoke as it died ...
There was some oil coming out of the tail pipe ... and there was no loud noise that I can recall ... It was blowing a LOT of pure white smoke, though. There was no oil leaking from the engine block, and all of the oil loss seemed to come from something that was spraying oil out onto the front left wheel well, just below the air filter ... I let the car warm up for a while and it drove fine on the way too the store. The problem started on the way back, and I wasn't in there long enough for the engine to cool down ... It appeared to me like it was only oil that came out ... no coolant, but I'm no expert. The dealership is telling me the engine seized, but I'm finding it really hard to believe. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by jsb_328i; 01-14-2004 at 09:09 AM. |
