Make them long tubes first of all. And I don't see why anyone would not want to go with 1 3/4" pipes. Second, what year is your T/A? SLP headers for the LS1 seem to be a nice straight design. For the LT1, Hooker super competition headers are what I'm pretty sure I will replace my Edelbrock shorties with one day soon. Some people think even those are no good - nevertheless I would never pay over a grand (Canadian) for a pair of headers!
If you've got emission laws where you live and decide to buy headers without emission fittings, I wouldn't buy them coated. Get them bare and drill out the necessary holes, then send them to a place to get coated. |

Well yes, I'd do up the entire exhaust system. You have two cats? I don't think you need to replace them. A Y pipe though would be needed to match the size of the headers - then have a 3" pipe running down to the muffler with dual 3" outlets would be good. I've heard of people running full 4" exhausts all the way down, but you may end up losing torque if you go too big.
