Acceleration Problem

I have a 95 Civic LX and I am experiencing acceleration problems. First it idles irratically meaning it runs "ruff" to the point that it shuts off. It cut off after the car has warmed up and it also cut off whenever i come to a stop. When taking off from a complete stop, the acceleration is very poor, it has to build up to speed. Is this the fuel filter, fuel pump or just bad gas? Plus where is the fuel filter/pump located?

Re: Acceleration Problem

Could be a lot of things, but fuel supply sounds like a likely culprit. Your fuel filter is under the hood against the firewall on the passenger side, and it has a fuel line running up underneath it, and the the main feed line coming off the top which goes to the fuel rail on the engine. Your fuel pump is underneath the back seat. You gotta unscrew four philips screws, then I think six 10mm nuts to pull a plate off, holding your fuel pump which is about the size of a RedBull can. There is a filter on the bottom of that, pull out your pump and see if there's crap on it. How many miles are on the car? I think you should change your secondary fuel filter (the one under the hood) after every 60k miles or something... not sure on that though.

Another problem could be clogged fuel injectors. Unplug them one at a time and using a multimeter test the resistance in ohms by putting a lead on each metal prong. I don't know the acceptable range, but what I would do is see if any of them are lower than the other three. If you find a bad one, DO NOT run fuel injector cleaner through your system. That shit is worthless in efi engines, and I've heard nothing but bad rumors about them. I've used it on my Talon and the problems I had only seemed to get worse (blown engine for starters..). Replace the bad injector... You can even go to a junkyard and buy one for $10 or something. Whatever you do, pray it's your fuel system because all these parts are beyond easy to replace, if you've ever had experience with Duplo blocks.. Reply back and let me know what you find.
