Question Tamiya TS-17 over white primer

Hi, I'm currently building the Grönholm 206 2000 (yes the silver/grey one) and it's getting time to spray the body.
Since I had some difficulties in spraying the chassis with using Tamiya white surface primer, I was wondering if it would make that much of a difference if I'd use a grey (or other color) primer.
Anyone with any tips?

Usually we could spray the grey primer first, and then sand the imperfect area, and then spray the white primer (if you do light body color) or keep using grey primer (for darker color)

for my personal experience it seems grey primer is more "sticky" and easy to be handled than white primer.

hope this help.

Re: Tamiya TS-17 over white primer

I don't know actually, when I sprayed the chassis I had "darker" borders arround curved objects, it wasn't a smooth color at all. Maybe it's my painting technique, who knows..

I've built a few Peugeots and I always spray the silver over a grey primer. Looks fine to me (example below). IMHO a white base coat is only needed for translucent colours like white, red and yellow. TS-17 covers well so a grey primer works perfectly

Just a quick question (a little off topic).. How did you get the 206 logo on the front grill?? Was it a template you made?
I've just started work on the Focus RS (performance blue) and would like to get the ford logo on the front grill, but it seems a little too complicated to do..

Re: Tamiya TS-17 over white primer

The 206 on the grill was painted using a template off a photo etched set. There should be some available with the Ford logo. Check out SMS or Studio 27, M&A also made a template set but their stuff is difficult to find nowdays.
