Question O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction? Help?

Hi.

I have a 2000 Maxima GLE. The service engine light came on but I did not notice any driving changes. Pulling codes showed that there was an oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunction, bank 2 sensor 1. Any advice with this? Is the circuit actually part of the O2 sensor where changing the O2 sensor itself would fix the problem? If that is the case, does anyone have any ideas which sensor "bank 2 sensor 1" is? Thanks!

sid

Re: O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction? Help?

Bank 1 is the bank where number 1 cylinder is located and bank 2 is where number 2 cylinder will be. 1 bank will be cylinder 1,3,5 and the other 2,4,6. Just can't remember whether bank one is in the rear or front??
At any rate the O2 replacement should the correct the heater malfunction as there is a heating element in the sensor itself. SO bank 2 sensor 1 will be closest to the engine just can't remember front or rear bank...duh! Maybe another member can tell you which side bank 2 is.....goodluck!

if ur car is a 4th or 5th gen:
facing your engine directly from the front with the oil filter to your left and the air cleaner to ur right, it goes:

1 3 5 <---bank #1
2 4 6 <---bank #2

the cylinders start from the top left corner then downwards. proceed to the right accordingly. i think this was in the owner's manual or something.

Yes that last post is correct. Bank 2 will be at the front of the car closest to the rad. So look for the O2 in the manifold. That'll be B2 S1.
Might be a wee tight to get at....hope this answers your questions.
