Here are the sympthoms, anyone know the diagnosis
The truck, 95 Tahoe. Sympthoms: Intermittent grinding sound on take off mostly, sometimes later. If I put in 4 wheel, grinding goes away instantly. No sound in reverse in 2 wheel. Checked actuater on front axel, working good. Transfer case problem?

I don't know if this helps or not, but I used to have a 1988 bronco and right before the whole rear differential went out (along with the front a couple weeks later
) I had that same problem. Once I got over abotu 25 mph, the grinding would go away. When my rear went, the dumbass tow truck guy towed me incorrectly and ripped out my transfer case, so I guess it could have been that too, but AAA payed for it all, so it ran fine after that... hope it helps a little..Ben |

Remove the rear transfer case housing, just remove the rear driveshaft and then the housing, around 5 bolts retain it. Once off look for a broken snap ring that hold the mainshaft in place just behind the rear bearing. The snap ring is around $11 plus the anerobic sealer to reseal the housing. Takes about 30 minutes to repair. Good Luck
