98 Accord Transmission issue 7year/100,000 warranty?

I have a 98 Honda Accord EX 4 banger. The transmission has been slipping, had it flushed a month ago. There's a hesitation b/ 1st to 2nd gear. I have 96000 miles on it. I found out on consumerguide.com that there was an extended warrantly issued 7year/100,000 miles for the transmission for 00-02 Accords. I didn't receive a recall letter or notification indicating that the 98-02 generation had tranny issues. It is well known that many people had this kind of problem. Do you think I can get the dealer to replace my transmission for free even though its a 98? Any advice from you guys is much appreciated. Thanks

It's not a recal, it is just an extended warranty, and I'm not positive, but I don't think the I4's are covered by it.

Re: 98 Accord Transmission issue 7year/100,000 warranty?

I have a thread going about my 98 V6 Accord - clunking into gear and slipping between gears but only when cold. After 5 minutes, all symptons disappear. My Honda dealer offered to replace my tranny at 50% of cost (not including labor) due to the extended warranty offered to 00-02 Accord owners. I decided against it to take a chance on my tranny lasting further. Does anyone know if the torque convertor is replaceable w/o tranny replacement ?
I don't think the extended warranty covers 4 cyl either.

Sure it is...but that's not your problem. Are you having other issues?

Your symptom is common with a sticking valve body or a fluid seal that is damaged and not holding pressure until it warms up and softens a bit. I'd try running a Seafoam or Trans-X in it according to the product instructions before accepting the problem...In either case I mentioned it will improve it.

DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANNY, regardless of what you've been told. 9 times outta ten it will exacerbate the problem on an older unit.

Re: 98 Accord Transmission issue 7year/100,000 warranty?

cp44, thanks for your suggestion. I'll give it a rip. I've noticed two other issues recently - 1) am getting a shimmy/vibration at 38 mph in 4th gear - when I shift down to 3rd, it smooths out quite a bit (2) at 70 mph, i feel same shimmy/vibration. I'm not sure if this is tranny-related.
By the way, this problem started in early Jan right after 90K maintenance at my Honda dealer.
