2000 Pathfinder SE gauge problem

I've got a intermittant probem with the gauges. The will work fine and then without warning all the gauges go dead. Tach, speeodometer, fuel and temperature. This thing has been driving me up a wall. They come and go. I haven't found any loose wires. I think its a power problem rather than a ground problem. Reason being, the fuel and temp gauges work off of a resistance ground at the sending unit. I've replace the printed circuit board on back of the dash. Didn't fix it. The only thing loosing speed signal is the cruise control. The transmission is still recieving it because shift timing is still right.. Any ideas would be much appreciatied.. Thanks... Mark

I am having the exact same problem with my 2000 -- the dealer is saying it is the speed sensor, but I believe the speed sensor is being damaged by the short in the line.

Thanks for the note about the instrument cluster; I was getting ready to replace mine.

I really doubt its the speed sensor. I do transmisson work for a living and it doesn't have the symptoms that a bad speed sendor gives. Although, I have had a code for that once or twice. But the trans still works right. That still shouldn't affect the tach or other gauges..

I have a similar prob with my 92 Pathfinder, & I believe you would be better off searching in areas other than the speed sensor. It seems my prob of intermittent working of temp & fuel gauges relates to a faulty voltage regulator attached to the back of the inst. cluster(though yours may not be). Although your problem is a little more encompassing, it is also a later model so I think it might be wise to check out that area also.
Good luck
