service engine light

Towards the end of season this my 93 Z28's service engine light came on. Well, it started to run like crap soon after that. I changed the spark plugs and noticed the drivers side plugs were fine and the passenger side plugs were black. I think it may have been running lean. Well it's still running like crap so I just put it away for the winter and was going to mess with it in the spring. Could it be the powerpack is taking a crap or something with the air fuel mixture. Thanks in advance!

Re: service engine light

my 97 did something simaliar. You may wnt to invest in getting a code scan tool. They run from 120-150 bucks. it ends up mine needs a new egr valve. I plan on putting a new one in this weekend. Good luck.

Re: service engine light

black plugs usually indicate a rich micture or an oil leak. at least to my knowledge. but do like copper sez, ether take it to the dealership and get it scanned, usually an hour rate for diagnostic. around 80 bucks now, or buy the tool yourself. with computer controled cars, they are worth their weight in gold. i would reccomend having it scanned one way or another before you did anything physical to the car. like ive told many people on here, im a chevy mechanic, and that is always the first thing we do to OBD cars. saves time, money and headaches, and always the worst thing, making the problem worse.

A cheap way around a scan tool is to find your Assembly Line Diagnostic Link and you can use a piece of wire to make your engine light read the code. You can get a manual at the parts store and it will simplify this procedure for you and even tell you what the codes should mean. Good Luck.
