Smile Nissan's 2005 Skyline

I'm a little undecided about the new Nissan V35 (I use the term loosely as the name Skyline and GT-R seem to be causing a little confusion at the moment. And I can see why. Nissan are being rather tight-lipped about the V35 and all we know is an approx release of April 2005. I have pictures of the V35 Skyline Executive (The family edition) and it's really ugly, so I'm guessing that the Skyline is the car, and the GT-R is the supercar. If you want to see pictures of either email [email protected]
As for the V6 TT, I'm a little shocked. We all know more power comes from a straight, and it leaves more room for bolt on extra's, the V6 just makes the nose shorter (helping for drift, I guess) but the alure of the Skyline is it's something different, an eye turner, personally using the same motor as the 350Z and the Maxima is a big mistake.
Will keep you posted when I get hard evidence to support what I know but won't tell here.

Re: Nissan's 2005 Skyline

The picture you posted is an old photoshop picture that has been on the web for a few years now... the new GTR will not look like that...

As for the new skyline, it is already available in the U.S. as the Infiniti G35 sedan and coupe... don't know about Australia...

The new GTR will not be released until probably 2007 and the final design and engine has not been determined...

The only reason the RB makes more power than the VQ is because the RB is old, and no one has really tried to tune the VQ all that much. One of the highest power ratings I've seen for a VQ is ~500hp(given a 15% loss from 429fwhp), out of a 3L(stock block and internals) daily driven Maxima. That should tell you how much potential is there for a VQ, especially if Nissan goes for a higher displacement and stronger internals.

You also stated one of the biggest reasons for going with the VQ. The nose is shorter, which is actually a good thing. Long front overhangs have a detrimental effect on weight distribution and handling. Since the VQ is a V6, it is actually more compact, being roughly half the length of the RB I6. The VQ is also much lighter, by at least 200lbs. The larger displacements of the VQ(up to 3.5L, 3.8 strokers available) also allow for more torque.

There's nothing wrong with using the VQ in the 350Z, Maxima, Altima, Quest, Murano, G35, and soon, the Frontier and M35. It helps Nissan to save money that can be funneled elsewhere, such as developing the GT-R.
A car company survives by selling the regular stuff. Then when they have the money, they spend it on the fun cars. That's exactly why Porsche came up with the Cayenne. They needed money for the future 911s, Boxsters, and Carrera GTs.

The motor works just fine, as evidenced by Nissan's win of the JGTC GT500 Team Championship in a GT-R powered by a VQ. The GT300 Driver's Championship was won in a VQ-powered Fairlady Z. Maybe there's something to this motor after all.

Re: Nissan's 2005 Skyline

also,I use to think the same thing about replacing the RB with a V6,but after reading alot in alot of forums,I understand that nissan is one of the best car companies in the world, and i dont think we should question their moves, they know what they are doing.and i think the skyline that it's goin to be introduced in 2007,it'll be powered by a 450hp 3.8 TT V6.I dont remember that clearly, but i think thats it...

Re: Re: Nissan's 2005 Skyline

i wouldn't even consider that a Skyline. the "GT-R"s are closer to the 350ZX than the Skyline. In fact it's not even gonna be called Skyline. It's just "GT-R" No V35/Q35. so as far as we know, 07...the Skyline is a discontinued car. It's a collecter's car know.

i'm so ashamed...

But, i can't help but wounder, what car did someone chop for that pic?

Re: Nissan's 2005 Skyline

If it helps:-
A straight six does NOT produce any more power than a V6 the only advantage to a straight six is that the first and second order vibrations are all cancelled out (its much smoother), the main reasons for manucaturers going to a V6 is to meet new Euro legislations for crash test where you must have clear crumple zones ahead of the engine. For manufacturers sticking with the straight 6 (ie BMW caus merc have a V6) then they are needing to repackage things like cam drives and ancilleries at the rear of the engine to reduce the front overhang.
Hoep that may clear a few points.

Good points. The RB will not be compliant with Japan's new emissions regulations either. The same goes for the SR.

Nissan apparently thought that the cleaner burning VQ would suit their performance needs just fine. Otherwise, they might have tried to clean up the RB.

The government cares. If the RB doesn't pass federal emissions, you don't get it. Grow up and think for once.

The Viper's motor is 8.3L, and is obviously cleaner than the RB. Otherwise it wouldn't be sold here.
