New guy looking at STI
I'm new to the forum and looking at the WRX or STI for myself to go along with a new promotion. I'm inclined to the WRX as the best all around vehicle for performance, longevity, reliability etc. I believe the STI will match in those areas but will draw the short straw when it comes to tempting me too much. The STI would be just too much fun and that would spell trouble. Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading posts and contributing when I have something to contribute.

Re: New guy looking at STI
I'm gonna recommend that you give the Evo a test drive.
I don't have much to contribute to this thread, having not driven an STi, so sorry on that. Not trying to talk you out of it, but a lot of people forget about the Evo. |

Here is a review of the STi and EVO, written by a guy who actually owned both, if you want to go beyond what magazines tll you and see how they work out in the real world - http://www.usdmsti.com/pdfs/ed_stireview.pdf

I believe the EVO is a good vehicle however I do not believe it is the equal to the STI in terms of overall quality or longevity. I also feel a loyalty to the Subaru line. The one feature of the EVO that stands out and I really really really would like is the rear windshield wiper. If Subaru had included that they would have the ultimate vehicle. Oh well, gives me something to suggest when they ask us for ideas on the new model year.

i know how you feel man... if its just going to be a regular every day driver go with the WRX... if you want to take a car to the drag strip for some fun get the STi... and there are tons more reasons why you would pick one or another... btw i think if you were to pull in to the dealer ship for a day of work and i saw an evo i would smack you

Re: New guy looking at STI
Sorry guys, didn't mean to turn the thread into an STi vs. Evo discussion. Back to the original question?

i personaly would get the sti. the main reason i sugest this is if you plan to do alot of modding or think you may then the sti transmission is the way to go.

Some things you might want to think about when considering your choice between the cars mentioned is of course the money you want to spend (including maintenance $$$), how practical is the car, how much does comfort really mean to you, and just how much attention would you like to get on a daily basis. As much as I lust for the STI I just can't see the balance between my needs and the cost. It would be fun to drive but a WRX or WRX wagon, which is what I own, will get you in just as much trouble as the STI but maybe not as quick. My wagon is a bit subtle and doesn't draw a great deal of attention except from fellow subaru enthusiasts. The wrx wagon would be the way to go since it offers a bit more practicallity with increased cargo capacity via the hatch and folding rear seats. Now interior and exterior dimensions are pretty much identical except for the wagons extended headroom. As far as the STI, Practicallity is not a major issue considering the car is not a 2 seater or something of the sort, but when it comes to insurance, car payments, maintenance, and costly body repairs from loss of control or from the typical jeolous racer boy, thats when practicallity should overrule. I do not say the things I say to steer anyone away from getting an STI, Lord knows I would get one If were single again, I only offer insight into what may or may not be a good choice for someone who is looking for a practical car that packs a bit of fun under the hood.I hope this helps and I don't come off like a preacher.

sti is a nice car.. the extra $6000 u put in.. over the WRX i think is worth it.. you get more boost/water spray cooler/control your own differential and lots more over the WRX... its worth it in my mind
