I HAVE A 1985 ELDORADO WITH A VERY GOOD RUNNING 4100 IF YOU ARE TO BELIEVE THAT. IT STARTED TO RUN RICH AND SO MUCH SO THAT IT STOPPED UP THE CATALYITIC CONVERTER AND NOW (EVEN WITH IT REMOVED) IT WILL RUN ONLY WHEN COLD. AS SOON AS IT STARTS TO WARM UP IT FLOODS OUT AND WON'T RUN. CODES ARE
1. NO POWER TO COMPUTER 2. NO SIGNAL TO DISTRIBUTOR THE WIRING DIAGRAM FOR IT IN THE MANUAL I BOUGHT IS INADEQUATE SO I WONDER IF SOMEONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN FIND THAT? (SHORT TERM FIX) AND LONG TERM I WONDER IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT INTERESTING ENGINE/TRANS AXLE SWAPS THERE ARE FOR THI CAR. I LOVE THE CAR AND AM AWARE THE 4100 IS CONSIDERED A DEFECTIVE ENGINE. I KNOW ABOUT THE 307 THING BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 305 THING I READ? ISNT THAT A CHEVY ENGINE? I GOTTA 400 SMALL BLOCK CHEVY THAT ISNT DOING ANYTHING RIGHT NOW... IDEAS? WHAT IS A GOOD PARTS SOURCE FOR SUCH SWAPS? THANKS IN ADVANCE! MATDADDYO |

Re: 1985 Edorado No Power To Computer Code
Hi, I am having the same problem with my 85 Eldo 4100. I am getting codes 18 & 52. The car is surging a little at idle and will not pass the emmisions test. From what I have read about the test results, it is running lean. It also feels flat when accelerating like the timing is way slow (It is not) or it is lacking fuel. I have completely tuned it up. No vacuum leaks 12psi Fuel pressure. I was told that the ECM has failed. I wasn't getting the code 18 until I removed the ecm then reinstalled it. It did have the 52 code before. Now the Service Engine Soon light is on. I just wanted a second opinion on replacing the ECM before spending the money.
Thanks, Jimmy |

Code 52 just means that the battery has been unhooked. Code 18 was due to a blown crank fuse under the dash. I figured it out myself. No tech's on this site I don't guess.
