Unhappy radiator cap

I have a 1996 gmc jimmy slt, and today i wanted to check the coolant level in the radiator because i suspect a leak. I allowed the engine to cool overnight and this morning as i turned the rad cap counter clockwise to open it i had no luck. it turns half way and then i press down on it and still not a budge...any suggestions guys...p.s. the cap is black not sure if its the ac delco one....thanks in advance

Re: radiator cap

i have a 98 jimmy and it does the same thing. . . i push it down, it will turn about a half a turn, then i have to push down with a pretty good force to get the rest of the turn out of it. . . i never did understand y it did it, but i just got used to it.

Re: radiator cap

if you still have the factory cap (black with green or orange lettering), replace it with a stant or other brand. the factory ac delco caps are defective and allow air into the system.

Re: radiator cap

as said before, you have to keep pushing down on it while turning it at the same time. it stops half way but then just push down on it again and turn. it should come straight off. remember to turn it counterclockwise (righty tighty lefty loosy)
