What engine offers the smoothest delivery of power?

Power is important, but so is the smoothness. I ask because I've heard the B16's are raucious and vibrate like mad. How would you rate these engines for "smoothness"?

D16A6
DOHC ZC
B16A
B18C
H22

And, for comparison...
D17A2

Will putting a turbo system on an engine affect this, also?

The vibrations can be controlled pretty much by the motor mounts you get. As with B16's, you can get the Hasport mounts, and they're stiff, so that will transfer most of the vibrations throughout the car. Whereas, some of the cheaper mounts use a softer insert for the motor mounts, so it will absorb a lot of the vibrations, and make a more vibration free car. The down side is that because it's softer, it allows the engine to move a bit more, so it will, in effect, take some of the HP away because as the engine is spinnin' it'll move back/forth up/down, or it will try to, so it takes that energy that would be transfered to the wheels, and the mounts absorb it. It's not a huge loss, but it's there. Just some food for thought there.

want a less vibrations....get a v8.....4cyl will always create more vibrations over a v8(both engines being stock with solid mounts) want even smoother? get a v12.....not much you can do to make ur engine vibrate less and still perform well.

I know I4's generally aren't that smooth, but I'd consider the D17, F22, and D15 all smooth, and it'd be kinda hard to stick a V12 into a CRX
Thanks for the mount info Marc, i'll have to remember that.

lol personaly i think all vtec engines will run smother when compared to a non vtec engine. being that the cam lobes on the non vtec are larger than the lobes on the small lobes of the vtec cam...also has to do with how well the engine has been kept...tune up and the sort.

Stock SiR engine mounts = no real vibrations with the B16A. It's as smooth as a D15 twin-carb

Bastard! I wish I didn't have such hard mounts sometimes..

But the B16 revs really nice.. Near 7-8000 its just singing a beautiful song.. The vibration is part of the experience.
