318i (1992) Known Head Gasket Problems

Hello all,

Excuse my ignorance but I was reading on one of the US sites and it states there was a major problem with the 318i (1992) M42 and the Timing Case Profile Gasket (Head Gasket) on all models? Does anyone know if this was a problem for the European (Spanish) releases of the 318i (1992)?

http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/eng...asket_faq.html

With a 97% failure rate I am a little worried that my newly purchased (1992 model) 318i is prone to this? I see no signs at present? The car has only donw 90,000kms.

Thanks,

Rob
