Light grinding noise

Hey All,

For the last week or so I've been hearing a light grinding noise when I made right hand turns. The noise doesn't happen all the time, but only sometimes when I'm really turning the wheel (like pulling into my parking spot)

I thought I read somewhere that this is a CV joint problem? Does anyhow know how much it costs to fix this?

Thanks
Joey

My car had a similar noise. In my case it was a scraping metallic noise in turns. I found rust had formed on the edges of the rotors and was touching the brake splash shield. I just ground off the rust and I was all set, cost $0.00.

Grinding?

Hey man,

does it make kind of a clicking noise as well? I've replaced both my axles from having CV joints wear out (and make a grinding/clicking noises). a rebuilt axle is about $120-150 CDN, and it shouldn't take more than an hour to replace.

If you have access to a hoist, or feel like crawing underneath your car with a flashlight, check near your front brakes (on your axle) and look for a torn rubber boot. if you find that it's cracked somewhere, then you can be pretty sure it's your axle.

Hope this helps man,

-Adam.

Yah it's sort of a light grinding/clicking noise now that I think about it. Like it isn't really all that loud, I have to have the radio off and the window open to hear it.

I'll crawl under the car when I get home and have a look. Thanks for the info!

If it is the CV's should I just replace the whole axle or just the CV joint?

If it is your CV joints just replace the whole axle. It's usually not much more expensive to replace the whole axle and it's alot easier than messing around with the joints.

Well it turned out one of my calipers was seized up and was the cause of the noise. I had to replace the caliper, pads and rotor.

Sometimes owning an older car is such a pain in the ass. She's lucky I love her.

My car made a real bad clicking noise for a while and still does sometimes. I had to replace my brake pads before anything else and now the clicking noise doesn't happen as often as it did. I hope my joints last until I get my engine swap (Next Month)! I've always heard they were good to ride on until they made that clicking noise going straight.
