93 cav motor swap

Pretty new here.. Have a question. I have a 93 Cav with the 2.2L and 5 speed. What would the difficulties be in swapping it with the 3.1L that was in the z24's in 93? Thanks for the help.

hmm..... where to begin. First you will hve to find a wireing harness and a ECU out of a Z24 of that year. Can probably find one from Painless wireing, or i've seen them on Ebay. Next you will need to find motor mounts, not to hard but not sure if all the holes are drilled for them in the subframe, or even if the subframe is the same. Fuel pump may be different, as well as throttle cables and battery cables. the Radiator is different as well as the hoses. Not sure about gauge calibration with the Tach if you have one. Exaust will be different, larger diamater pipe and new cat would be a good thing. I would recommend a strut tower brace if one is not installed already. dont think the front suspension is different but its worth lookign in to, brakes as well. i know they all use the same pads but not sure about rotor size or caliper pressure. you should beable to find most of this stuff at local autoparts store, aka Autozone or advanced auto. it may be more cost efficient to just buy a Z24

Re: 93 cav motor swap

It acually isn't as hard as he says it is. The Engine Mounting brackets on the Subframe are more than likely the same. You can pull a wiring harness from a junk yard, just as long as they havent Raped it. Same with the ECM (Electronic Control Module). The Fuel Pump is the same (unless it is TBI [Throttle body injection] but they stopped making that after the 91 year) Exaust is the same Size 2 1/2 in They only problem will be The pipe on the V6 comes from the Right side of the engine (or The side closest to the fire wall)and the 4 cyl come off the side closest to the Rad. The Rads. might be the same, and yes the hoses will be diff for the most part, that you will have to injestigate.Throttle cables yes will have to be changed, but this isn't that hard. The brakes are acually the same, Calipers and Rotors. in 92 they updraged to the bigger brake sys, wich was an option in 91. The Tranny might be a diff story though. you will need to find out wich one you have, they put 3 diff trans in that year of car. An Izusu Trans, wich I think was for the 4 cyl engines and the Muncie 282, and the Getrag MG2. You might be able to use your existing Trans, but I am not sure. You will however have to change the CV Joints, wich in turn might make you change the trans. If you get a V6 engine that came from a manual trans car, you wont have to worry about the flywheel. No you cannot use the one from the 4 cyl. Well That is about all I can think of at the moment. If you have any questions you can e-mail me or IM me on AIM. just look in my profile and the info should be there. One more thing. about the wiring harness, when unless you have an RS Cav, with the instermant cluster, you might have an issue there.
