Post Summernats?

If you've used AF for long enough, you get tired of seeing race cars and hot rods and generally things that are more or less driven in one way or another, but what about show cars? any australians would know what I mean - flashy paint jobs with wild engines, enourmous wheels and fancy interiors with spotless body-colour undersides that look like they've never had mud splashed on them, ever. to get more to the point, why don't we start a competition for models based around what Auto Salon and Summernats do? having a miniature car show would be the ultimate test of ingenuity, trying to come up with the most dazzling engine/paint combos. anyone else think this would be a good idea?

I have been to the auto salon but the paint was nothing like these cars.

I thought this thread was going to be about painting and bugs found in summer, Summer Nats.
But it seems a great idea

yeah i love the idea, been looking for an excuse to do a mad paint job anyway, hehehe, i have seen some of the cars you are talking about, the strangest was a subaru imprezza done up like a rainforest with snakes and stuff everywhere, even the discs were painted like plants and animals and stuff, interior was well weird, bloody drugs, lol.

yeah we should definately do this

post a set of rules or sumfin as well to keep it competative. and set a 2 month deadline maybe, im rambling now

Im not even a modeller and it sounds like a good idea to me. Hell if this idea becomes reality, I will take up model building, I would love to be involved.

Cool

Sounds pretty cool to me!!
Here's a picture of a few "show" cars for Dr.AK. It's not perfect but hopefully it gives an idea about the showcar thing.

?

So basically, the "show cars" are tuned cars, right?
Or is there any speakable difference?

And most of them are japanese? I don't get the notion "show cars???"

maybe wildly tuned cars? making it ricers then?

Olivier (confused)

now that is what i term as a show car, something that is purely built to show skills, not to be driven. allowing you to go mad without worrying about practicality or anything silly like that, but one of these is gonna take time

essentially summernats is mostly the V8 based crowd, like myself, but the auto salon boys have entered the elite competition before, but have never really made much of a splash. what I am suggesting is a contest that is a mix of both real world shows - ricers and japs doing battle with metal mountains and mickey T's. It would be judged the same way, however. car taste would not come into the scoring, you would mainly gain points fior the ingenuity and engineering of the car, as well as the wow factor it produces. what we're looking for is something that only vaguely resembles a factory built car, a real mechanical monster.

who's with me?
