Exclamation Transmission or what?

I have a 95 Saturn SL1 Standard, In the last 6 months we have had to replace:
Clutch (and all accesories)
Battery
Alternator (yesterday actually)
brakes
plugs/wires/etc (everything included into a full tuneup)
fixed a minor oil leak

Now last night (after the alternator was succesfully installed and working) my husband drove it around for a bit. While on that drive he noticed everytime he tried to shift gears it made an aweful hissing noise, put it into gear and it made a loud "pop"/"clunk" noise the first time the "pop" happened fluid 'spewed' out of the car breifly. Now it is not spewing but will not go into gear. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. (our saturn mechanic friend is out of town on 2 weeks of vacation)

what happened is you busted your transmission and the fluid spilled so there is no lube to switch gears. duh
