Question for ctr engine owners
When does your vtec engage? Mine kicks in at 6,100, and that seems a little high to me. I know buying a V-AFC is able to lower that but I want to know if something is wrong first. Correct me if I'm wrong but the 00 Si engages vtec at 5,500 right? I had that number in my mind, that's why I think 6,100 is a little up there.

Don't know abot the B16B but I know most VTEC engines kick at 55-56K. 61k is a bit high. Hook up a VAFC or VTEC light to see the exact cross-over.

I think maybe it has to do with redline? Does the Si tach out at ~7,200 or 8,200? If 7,200rpm then I can see why 5,500 would be the point of engagement, but if it's 8,200rpm and they're engaging that low, I'm going to get my engine checked out... or just buy the controller. I need one anyway because I run super rich when driving somewhat hard (not flooring it) on the freeway.

The B16A redlines at 8200. On my VAFC, yes the VTEC engagement comes on before the sound.

Oh okay, well the badass sound pops up around 6,100 but it does start picking up a little bit around 5,000 or so. I just tried getting on to www.jdmfan.com for the vtec light install instructions but for some reason that site doesn't work on my computer. It does at work though... weird. I could do some research but being lazy, can you tell me how to rig it up? I'm pretty educated in electronics so I won't ask dumb shit like what do + and - mean...

Thanks man, but my friend has an EX and went to an office suppy shop and made some clear overhead projector type paper which said VTEC on it. He replaced some unused info light in his cluster with it, and it lights up red. I think maybe the seatbelt one... I would want mine on the cluster instead of some little LED. At least I know which wire on the ECU it is now. I know the site said "any vtec engine" so hopefully the Japanese harness is the same...
If I don't figure it out I'll just put blue LED on my a/f pillar gauge like this guy, that would still be pretty cool I guess... maybe ricey, but oh well, it's serving a purpose instead of pure visual effect. |

I just suggested the site for wiring. Use whatever light you want. I've seen ones people make and sell on ebay that look like what you described. They look aight. Do what you wish for the light. I just payed for a VAFC.
