1.9l diesel vs. 1.8l gti

Hi, im new to this forum, and new to volkswagens in general, i have always been a rice burner kinda guy but i just rode in a 2003 Golf tdi, manual with that diesel engine. I was very impressed with the speed of that car especialy for 90 hp. So i was looking into buying this car, but now im considering the 1.8l gti, becouse it has double the hp and i here its highly costomisable. so heres my questions...

1. how does the diesel version hold up to the 1.8l gti?

2. is it easy to upgrade the diesel to 200+ horsepower?

3. is the diesel worth it in the long run if your looking for a car to somewhat upgrade?

if anyone could help me out it would be awesome, i wanna make a desicion in a month or two.

p.s. sorry if this has been asked befor.

the tdi and 1.8t are in 2 totally different realms.

1) tdi is diesil, 1.8t is gas.

2) not really any modz for the tdi, tons for the 1.8

3) 90hp starting poitn, and 150 hp starting point.

if you want something to customize and tune, go with the 1.8

if you want good gas milage and something you can go for looks on, get the tdi.

yeah i want all the mods, i just like how the diesel gets such good gas milage and it lasts for ever. plus it has a turbo and you can get a chip for it so i thought it might have something more. I guess i will go with the 1.8l though.

or you could go for some real power outta the box and get a 24valve vr6!!!

not as many mods as the 1.8t and not as mod friendly but a tubo will change all that!

well why not install yourself it is all together connected to the manifold with the wastegate ya just bolt on the mani connect your downpipe and your intake and your intercooler and go. You would want a performance exhaust yes but new clutch is only if you plan on using it 24/7 dont show off your car. Just drive it with the rpm's below your turbo spool up and you wont have any problems.

BUT i would suggest upgrading your fuel system and your gonna need a new chip cause that bitch gonna need gas air and more air

the 1.8 lacks the torque of the other vw engines and the 2.slow is even worse.

now your just talking shit, of course a 4cly doesn't have as much tourque as a v6, but the 1.8power curves are awesome as you build it up.
