Skyline R32 rear lights.......

Ok, originally i was gonna get the 180sx type X rear lights for my 91 sx. But since i dont have like $500 extra dollars laying around my house, ive decided to go with an alternative. R32 Skyline lights, they still look pretty damn sweet, although i must say im still in love with the X lights, but how much work would i have to do to make the skyline lights work? Thnx alot peeps

WHoa... THis is the kind of stuff that makes this forum unenjoyable!
You have to relax just a little bit. Lets see if anyone at the forum has researched this before.
The skyline headlights could possibly be made to fit, i mean anything is possible if you have the money. If i remember correctly the skyline taillights are much bigger so you would need to do alot of custom work not to mention the correct wiring.

wait...so you're saying that putting on the R32 lights would be cheaper than getting something that is more "blot-on" than that? I'm confused....unless of course you have those lights just lying around, in which case I would shadap :-D

it's definitley going to be cheaper to get those type x. to source a pair of r32 tail lights, get the custom work done to make it work and look right, and then painted to match right would cost a little more than 500$. besides, thats kinda....ricey, wouldnt you say? keep the skyline lights to the skylines and the 240 lights to the 240s.

that's the kind of thing that would get you eaten alive on the other popular 240SX forums.

there's no such thing as Type X lights. EVERY SINGLE Kouki 180SX had the EXACT SAME tail-lights. as far as i know, there were 4 trim levels: Type-G, Type-S, Type-R, and Type-X. every single one had the exact same tail-lights, so they SHOULD be called Kouki lights instead.

anyways, which Skyline lights would you be going for? do you have a coupe or a hatchback? i'm guessing hatchback since you were considering Kouki's...

the only one i can see that would look REMOTELY good would be the R32 tail-lights on an S13 coupe. i've seen this done more then once before, and it actually looks like it matches since the lights are from the same time period and the lines mostly match up. R33 and R34 lights are too big and too round to look good on an S13. and in my personal opinion, NONE of the Skyline lights would look good at all on the hatchback. i'd say leave your stock lights on and get a 180SX centre-panel made for the older lights (they're about $50) and be happy with that until you can afford Kouki's.

another thing. i don't understand why you're considering Skyline lights when you say that Kouki lights would cost more. since the Kouki lights would be a direct bolt-in, the initial cost is all you pay. with the Skyline lights, you pay for the lights themselves, and THEN you have to pay for the custom fabrication to get them put on the car. also, with custom fabrication, you run the risk that it won't look good in the end, and i personally don't see Skyline lights looking good at all on a hatchback.

hope that helped!

Gotta agree with everybody... the Kouki lights would be a cheaper, but if you just HAVE to get the Skyline lights, check this out:
http://www.jacquemond.com/240.htm
It should give you some sort of idea how it would look. Personally, it doesn't look too bad, but a little bland and plain for my taste because of the center garnish.

OK, thanks for clearing things up. Originally i was gonna just put the 180sx center piece and then just later on do a light conversion. But one of my friends said he heard the r32 lights wouldnt be hard to do, i got them right now from a friend for $80 bucks, he got the hook up. Ill probably end up selling them for maybe 180 or something, i probably can get a good sell on them.
