Bigger Tires

I am going to get bigger tires for my 99 Tahoe 4x4 - someone said I would have to recalibrate my Tahoe - can anyone tell me what that involves?

You'll need to recalibrate the speedometer signal from the tranny. If you dont your speedo will read wrong, and your shift points will be all F'd up... I dont know of any speed calibrators currently available, but I do know that all the common programmers have this feature (hpp3, superchips, SPE proflash, etc..)..

Do you happen to know how much more that would cost?

Well, if you could find a speedo calibrator for the vortec 5.7, it'll only run you about $100, but a programmer is around $340.. I know Abbott makes a speed cal for Mustangs (used to have one), but I don't know if they have one for chevy's. You might try asking around at www.fullsizechevy.com to see if anyone know's where to pick one up, otherwise you'll just have to deal with an overly high speedometer and early shift points (wont hurt anything but performance) until you can afford a programmer...

Thanks - maybe I'll just use the same size tire but bigger rims - 16's on there now, probably go to 18's

You can easily get away with an inch or so of increased diameter without noticing much of a difference... When you said "bigger tires", I was thinking 36" Mud Boggers, not chromed 20's....
