When I step on the brakes, it makes a rattling noise and it vibrates real bad up front. Also, when I go over bumps, the front suspension rattles. Anyone know whats causing this? Its a really wobbly ride and its starting to scare me. I have to get it inspected in a week so im gonna have my mechanic check it out then but id like to know before hand if any of you can help me out.

It could be bad rotors or bad joints. Does this only happens when you brake? Or when you drive? |

my car did this BAD too...
on cars our age it is common for the seal around the piston in the caliper to start going out, and this can cause it to stick, making the brakes apply uneven pressure between the driver and passenger side.. so i had to replace my calipers because of this... also, i had my rotors machined and put in new pads. i had a shop do it, and the total bill for labor, new calipers (not remanufactured), pads, and rotor turning was 650 from a honda/acura specific shop.

It does it really bad when braking but the pedal doesnt go up and down so it shouldnt be warped rotors or anything. That could be what it is though DarkImportGrey, thanks for your input. I also think Im gonna need new balljoints and possibly control arms. Also, to boot, im way out of allignment... great.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation. I've got all new ball joints (upper and lower), tierod ends, struts, and an energy suspension bushing kit (while I got this stuff apart I might as well replace the bushings too right?) for a grand total somewhere north of $700, just for the parts!

This definitely sounds like warped rotors. I'd also be checking the tension on the bolts on your calipers, just in case. The only other thing worth checking is your ball joints as they are constantly under load - more so when you get on the brakes.
As for the rattling... it's a Civic

i had the same kinda problem but it wasnt the rotors or ball joints, the inner tie rod ends were bad, sucked cause it took me forever to figure it out

My ride did the same thing when my rotors were toast. is it your steering whell that shakes or is it the car?

Klunky Clunk.
I replaced my pads and rotors on my civic, that made quite an improvement, stopped all my wheel shake on decelleration. although I still have a funny 'klunk' sound that seems to come from the rear of my car, sounds like a body rolling around in the back. Dunno what it is yet. any suggestions?
Thanks all! -Adam. |

Well, I figured out what was causing a lot of the shaking and shit. My car was way out of allignment so I fixed that the best I could. Not so shaky anymore when braking. Also though and this is where the real problem lays, my steering rod (the part that connects to both wheels to move it side to side when you turn, also with the tie rods on the ends). It had a lot of play in it causing the whole front axle to vibrate occasionally. So right now im replacing that and its a pain in the ass. New calipers also helped a bit. New suspension goes on tomorrow though
