Battery/electrical issue?
Hi I am new here and have a question about a recent issue I have been having with my car. I should start by saying I am not very knowledgeable on cars and such so forgive me if I need further clarification at times.
The car is a 2005 Chevy Aveo. So here is the story. A friend wanted to use my car to jump start his dead battery, and I agreed. I don't think he really knew what he was doing (and neither did I). I think he put the cables on in the wrong order. He first attached both clamps to both terminals on my battery, and then attempted to attach the other end to his battery. Turns out they wouldn't reach because of the way I was parked. So he set the loose end of the cables on the ground while still attached to my battery and they crossed causing some sparks. Then when I tried to turn on my engine to reposition my car it wouldn't start. We were both able to get jumped from someone else, and by that time it was time for me to go to work (about a 30 minute drive). So I drove all the way there with no A/C or stereo in hopes that the battery would recharge, but sure enough it needed a jump again. I have tried jumping it and driving around several times, but it always needs a jump to get going again once the engine is turned off. So I'm wondering does the battery need to be replaced because of this incident? Or did I do some other damage to my electrical system when the cables crossed? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! -Austin |

Re: Battery/electrical issue?
Get the battery tested. It may have been weak to begin with. A short crossing of jumper cables shouldn't cause any major damage.
