Yesterday my 2001 Z24 ran out of gas. I put approx. a 1/4 tank of gas in it and now it will not start. I can hear the fuel pump humm. Tried starting the car numerous times it sounds like it is going to turn over but it won't. I need help asap because I need my car tomorrow to go to a Dr.'s appt. Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Z24 Ran out of gas and won't start
Get a can of carb cleaner and spray it into the intake.....then try and start the car......if it runs as long as you spray, then it is a fuel problem.....either the injectors are not firing or you have no fuel pressure.....if there is a shraeder valve on the fuel rail, depress it and see if fuel shoots out....if nothing or a trickle, then most likely the pump....just because you hear the pump, doesn't mean it is pumping....
One thing I harp on......never run a vehicle under 1/4 of a tank.....if you constantly do, you are asking for problems....that fuel pump gets very hot.......the gas covering it, keeps it cool.....you will will shorten the life of the pump this way.... |
