99 CRV anybody done rack and pinion seals?

got a leak on the left side, coming out of the boot on the rack. anybody done the seals on this gen? of course i want to do it without removing the rack, have recently done inner and outer tie rods, lucas leaks sealer only slowed it down. very little on this from what i've seen on the web, my manual doesn't even mention it as a procedure. kit is available for about $15 from rockauto, but i'd like to know what i'm getting into. have removed a rack or two before and found it to be a huge pain in the ass, don't mind fiddling with my head in the wheel well if it's a doable job.
