horn question
97 buick skylark
v6 3.1ltr the horn and airbag are one unit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUICK-REGAL-...62e5ae&vxp=mtr my horn started going off intermittently. i had to remove the fuse. so i got another from a salvage yard. the shop said it did not work, nothing. they said my horn would go off and sometimes stick etc... so obviously there is juice. i took the airbag back to the salvage yard and the guy tested it with an ohmeter and he said it works. the meter showed a 1, then when he applied the contacts it went to zero. if my horn works shouldn't the salvage horn (if it is really good)? is it possible the original problem with my horn is in the relay? know what i mean? |

Re: horn question
so i go back to the shop and the guy hooks the salvage yard horn up to a battery and meter and the reading was zero.
the salvage yard guy just used an ohmeter and the reading was 1, then when i pressed on the unit the reading went to zero. the shop guy said it is not the relay. is it possible it could be the relay? since i am in florida, i figured the pressure build up in the car from the heat while it sat caused the horn to go off because the padding was deteriorated. the horn never went off when i was driving. i do not want to get another airbag until i have a better idea what is going on. i have seen airbags on line for $95 with a one-year warranty so they have to be good. but i sure would like to make sure it is the airbag. any ideas? suggestions? thanks |

Re: horn question
A realy is cheap enough to replace and check operation. What you are describing sounds like a horn contact problem. I would listen to the guy at the shop before the salvage yard guy.

Re: horn question
Yes, I think you are quite right in your approach as purchasing air bags is not a big deal but you should be aware of whats happening with you and why this is all happening. you said that you think this all happened because of pressure and Heat but it is quite surprising thing that horn never blew off while you drove your car. I think that salvage yard guy checked it right and after that I would not say that this is a contact problem too. Hope to see the solution of this.
