differential half shafts slop

The halfshafts in my 63 falcon ute has slop in the splines that fit into the side spidergear in the dif,and I wonder how much is to much,I also plan to shim behind the top and bottom spider gear bushes to tighten these up ,is this the done thing.
any help greatly appreciated

Some play is normal without being there to feel it we cannot tell from here.

If your taking the diff out, can you measure the slop in the spiders?

There should be some, but to much, or too little will chew out the teeth.
