Starter grinds and won't engage

Both starter and torque converter are new and still won't engage but once in a while. It will either grind or just spin then I hand turn the crank and keep doing this over and over and once in a while it will catch and start. I have dropped the tranny twice now and very frustrated, PLEASE HELP
