Tamiya Mini - Modified and Detailed
This is the first time I've built a model like this, just usually to the book and thats it. This time though I've decided to go the step further:
A modified engine along the lines of the Honda V-tech conersions. Modified engine bay and chassis/ frame to hold it all. Fully(proably not quite to some of the standards on here) detailed interior, with leather and carpet. Opening boot and hopefully doors. Already taken all the front off to make the complete front open. Hopefully detailed suspensions and brakes upgraded. Hopefully lights, working from switch and stuff in the boot. And whatever else I've forgotten. Build has already started to heres a few images: ![]() The front end... by Simply_Ginniff, on Flickr ![]() Carpeted by Simply_Ginniff, on Flickr Carpeting now finished. The seats will be finished in leather. Which is from a free sofa cushion I got when wandering in to a carpet shop to possibly get a leather sample. Not a whole cushion cover... ![]() Cutting out the hatch for a working boot. by Simply_Ginniff, on Flickr Boot out, but not as neat as I wanted it, so some work here still to do. ![]() Building up the engine. by Simply_Ginniff, on Flickr ![]() Try out the wheels/ tyres for size. by Simply_Ginniff, on Flickr Testing out possible wheels in the form of some SCX Arrows F1 car. They seem a good size, but I won't permanently attach them in case I refurbish the SCX car they came from. ![]() Try out the wheels/ tyres for size. by Simply_Ginniff, on Flickr Thats it for now, I will be keeping this updated, but may take a while as I can't get on with other parts until this damn engine is in. |

Re: Tamiya Mini - Modified and Detailed
I can see this thread just fine and I really like the look of those wheels on this car! The carpeting doesn't look too good to me, though

Well this is weird then as I can see your post fine, but not mine, its just not there. I could yesterday. And yes I am going to redo parts of the carpet.
Thanks. |

Re: Tamiya Mini - Modified and Detailed
Should be fine now, no idea what was going on but I deleted the post just now and then "undeleted" it and I think it should show up now.

Re: Tamiya Mini - Modified and Detailed
zerocool: Yes I saw yours and thought, "ah we're doing something similar in quite a few parts" Your boot came out neater than mine
Also I like your way of doing arches, when the primer goes on after more sanding I may have to 'borrow' that method if mine don't come out as I wanted. But yeah, there is so much you can do with a MINI. It's great fun just to think of anything and do it. Not many cars actually allow this. |
