997 GT3 RSR n°80 Flying Lizard Le Mans 2007 by Profil 24
I guys, I wanna show you my new project...
The car is the Porsche 997 GT3 RSR that participated in 24h of Le Mans race in 2007 with a fantastic livery. The model has been created by Profil 24, is not 100% like the real car and the quality of the resin in the others parts is not very good, I'm going to replace a lot of parts with plasticard. Let's start with the model... First of all I have modified the system for assemble the body of the car with the chassis, the original method was with the normal screw but I have decided to replace it with a bolt and nut of 3mm. Then, following some original pictures of the car I drilled the body for the rivets (0,8mm) and in the front part near the wiper for the air and fuel plugs. After that I drilled out a lot of extra resin in the wheels area because was impossible to fixed it. I have done the same also in the rear part for the air flow near the exhaust. The pictures may be more understandable... |

Great start.
The livery is just breathtaking. I hope that Profil 24 will reissue this kit along with 2011 versions. I will be following your build closely. Good luck!

Focus now in the iterior.....
First of all i have decided to erase the electrical wires because i will replace it with the new loom made by Top Studio. Then, i have replace also others small parts with a plastic rod (2mm). After that i'm focused on the doors panel; the Profil 24 panels are wrong because they add the rool-bar in the panel but in the real car in not like that !!!! Then, i have created the panel using plasticard (3mm). The last thing for today is the replacing of the seat fixing; the original was with two small part but i have modified it with a plasticard because with the new roll-cage the seat has to be move more in the right part (very close to the central tunnel). Many thanks to everyone

The body....
After two medium hands of Zero Paint primer, I passed the whole body with 1500 wet paper to remove the additional parts during the primer spray. Then I sprayed 3 hands of Pure White (Zero Paint) for the interior. During my waiting for the drying, I'm focused on the rims and I have already sprayed the primer; i'm waiting from Hiroboy the Alclad Chrome for paint it !!!! The interior... The doors panel are almost finish, satin black white the carbon look made by Scale Motorsport. In the same time I've started with the steering-wheel assembly but i saw that it was not right because was impossible to assembly with the appropriate photo-etched. Then I delete it and recreate it with plasticard, now seem like the original one. The pictures will represent my work !!! Andrea ps: (SPORTRACER02) I don't now why but the pictures in my pc are showed like normal picture, not like miniatures !!! |

Hi guys,
First of all I wanna reply to "Hildengarde": So, my idea at the beginning was to open it, but after the modification of the fixation system , has been difficult drill it because it was the nut and i was thinking that the resin could become weak. Following with the WIP....The doors panel are ready !!! As i have already said to you I recreated it with plasticard (3mm), then I added some parts for more realism. I have done also the footboard, also here carbon look and Scale Motorsport parts. I started the most difficult part for this kit, painting the body !!! I sprayed three hands of Mica Silver (Zero Paint) at the beginning because it's the major color present in the body, then i masked the appropriate parts and sprayed three hands as well of Light Blue (Zero Paint). I can say that i'm quite happy for the result....I know that the best will be with the clear coat . The pictures will represent my hard work for today ..... Tomorrow is the time for finish the body paint with the Bright Red (Zero Paint) Andrea Steven www.cableracing.eu |

You are doing an EXCELLENT job. This is a very difficult kit, but you are doing wonders with it!
The paint scheme looks is intimidating, but ZERO paints are the best choice to do it, since they dry in a thin, flat finish, and they are very easy to mask. Great job! |

Re: 997 GT3 RSR n°80 Flying Lizard Le Mans 2007 by Profil 24
Hi guys,
Following with the body painting....I masked the rear of the car and applied two hands of Bright Red (Zero Paint) for ending the complete livery of the car. I can say that the result is very good, the Zero Paints have worked very well. After that I sprayed just one other hand of Pure White (Zero Paint) inside. Now I'm going to apply the Carbon Fiber decals on the bottom parts for a better result, and then ....Clear Coat (Zero Paint) !!!!!!!!! In the same time I've done also the exhausts.... At the beginning it has been difficult to find the color that seem like the real, but after I found it mixing Smoke-Clear Orange-Metallic Brown (Tamiya), after that I sprayed a Matt Black (Lifecolor) for used effect. Now the exhausts seem like the real !!!! Now the wheels... For concluded the steering wheel you have to fix it with the hub (Light and Wiper switchs) but Profil 24 didn't create it !!!! Then, I modified it adding the light and wiper switchs. The pictures are going to show you what I have done ..... Andrea Steven

Andrea Steven,
As promised, I've done a complete guide for decal job (I'm the designer of this decal sheet, so now I know this car like my pocket !). Really welldone Dexter, thank u.This is a great job.The decalwork is a real mess over this model, even if it is surely the most attractive part of this Porsche.
Wonder if u can do the same job with jeff koon's bmw m3gtr Gt2, as done by decaldoc

Re: 997 GT3 RSR n°80 Flying Lizard Le Mans 2007 by Profil 24
Following with my kit....
I've decided to cover all under body with the carbon fiber (BBR), I spent a lot of time for do it but I think that the final result is good !!!. After that I sprayed one hand of clearcoat (2K) inside and outside, for a glossy effect everywhere. Zeropaint (2K) didn't say how many hands are necesary for a good result but It say that are necessary 24ml of product for one 1:24 model. Then I sprayed only one hand of 2K. The end of the body has been the windows and lights edges , where I sprayed a Matt Black (Lifecolor) after a long masking work. In the pictures you will see that in some parts the black color is in surplus but I removed it with a wet toothpick. Hope that you'll enjoy my work !!!! Andrea Steven |
