Speed Racer

I used to watch the original series as a kid. But I do remember another version of it being aired as well. . Frankly I like the look of that car better. I've attached a couple of pictures below...
Old series:

New Series:

I know someone has made a replica of the original Mach 5. What about the one from the new series???

Re: Speed Racer

To be honest the 2008 movie didn't do the series justice.
The race scenes look more like a Xbox / PS3 game rather than an action movie.
OK granted that watching the original series is rather geeky and childish right now for me, but as kid it was fun. Not the movie. I would still watch the original series now just for the fun of it.

However in 1993 they made a series in which I like the car and that's the picture I posted above. The series didn't catch on 'coz they included some time travel sequences and stuff which didn't win over much fans.
The car looked excellent and I would have liked to see that in the movie, like after the Mach 5 was destroyed.
There are other newer anime series out there, but the car looks like the original Mach 5 with rockets attached.

Lets face it.. the show original show had the magic.. but as for the car.. I like the 1993 one.

Re: Speed Racer

Gotta be the original, it's a classic in terms of styling.

Like a Japanese version of a D Type Jag.

I was very skeptical of the 2008 movie, but I think it did a good job of keeping the important cartoon elements and the fantasy associated with it.
