98 Lumina wont move

For between 2-4 months now when my car is cold I have to push down on the gas in order to get the car to move and after a couple seconds it will jerk back or forward whichever way I am going. If I let the car warm up for about 10-15 minutes it doesnt do it. Then today when I went out to leave for school the car wouldnt back up like normal so I held down the gas and it jerked back for a second and then wouldnt back up or move forward at all even after I let it heat up more. I tried all the gears and none of them would let the car move at all. My mom thinks it might have something to do with the transmission but I dont know anything about cars so I have no idea. I have no idea what could be wrong or what to do.

luminas were bad on trannys you may want to change tranny fluid and filter and see how many metal shavings in old fluid with magnet and if there chunks the tranny is shot.

Re: 98 Lumina wont move

Your tranny is toast. Sounds like pump died, or you blew a major pressure seal. Delayed engagement when cold is sign of worn seals that can't conform enough to hold pressure until they soften up, usually, or a severely worn pump. By giving it gas, you were raising the pressure above the threshold to cancel out the blow-off. Chances are a seal finally blew apart and can't hold any pressure now. Or the harsh cold engagements finally blew the sprag. Tranny shop time...
