hello. i have a 90 k1500, standard cab, long box, 350, with a 5 speed stick. i did an enginge this time last year, and have had no problems till now...
here's my story. 1 month ago (december in mich, coldish 30's) , she starts to pop and sputter. no real pattern. within a week, it's all when she's cold. (im still driving reg.). then a week later codes trip. didnt bother, it still ran ok when warm... last week, poping and sputtering continue all the time. cant top 40 mph, and backfiring out the exhaust... codes were telling me something different everytime... (lying to me?)... started with timing... it was off a few deg. then i lost spark. so, i rebuild my dist. cap, rotor, pickup coil, ign. cont. module, the the other coil is fine. got my spark back. she runs again. but whal doing that, i saw a spark. my + batt cable on the starter had come loose. cut open, and resting on the starter heat shield... so... i fix that. test drive. poping sputtering. new code trips. ok. this time it's real. 44 o2 sens. ok. replace that (hell coming out, apply anti seize). test drive. new code 34 map sens, but no o2 code. now, it's just that code. are all these things related? the bat. cable damage everything??? (over reacting) im wondering if the o2 sens was bad... am i chasing gremlins... but then again the code did stop... for the time being. but if the map is acting up... making me run rich... o2 would trip out, right... ARGGGHHHHHHH i dont need a backyard mechanic... i am one. i need the guru of the garage, someone from the mecca of mechanics, King of the K series... am at my witts end. thanks . |

Re: everything all at once...
In your list of repairs I did not see plug wires, bad wires can do some real screwy things.

Re: everything all at once...
If you are getting a MAP code, be sure the ends of the vacuum hose are still good. On my 90 K1500, I had a vacuum leak at the MAP sensor where the glue was no longer working.
Might also help to get a scanner on it and see what the fuel trims are and what the MAP sensor is reporting. //2000CAYukon |

replaced the vacume lines when i did the engine... half of them were bad, and the other half got damaged removing them... i'm still monkeying with the EST right now... 11:00 at night, and still going... another $75...
