Re: egr troble restricted flow to egr 4.6

Usually if the EGR valve is clogged, you can spray some carb cleaner into it through the throttle body and try to break up carbon buildup with a long pipe cleaner you can reach to it.

If the tube is blocked up, you need to remove the EGR valve and clean the tube of carbon buildup. The EGR tube breaks easy, be careful or just get a replacement tube and valve and save the trouble of cleaning them.

BUT

Before you spend any money, check the DPFE sensor. It is located on the passenger side head on the back side by the firewall. It is hard to reach (go figure). It is held in place with two bolts. It has a single electrical connector and two tubes extending from the EGR tube. The DPFE is responsible for telling the computer if the EGR valve is working or not. Water collects in here and can skew readings or it may have failed. You can smack the water out of it in the palm of your hand once removed. Be sure to connect the two tubes correctly!

15min job by just taking off the throttle body, cleaning the EGR gas passages, and EGR from inside the Intake. The original EGR was good, but a pain to put back in.

I got a free 1995 Towncar years ago, because of a $500 bad EGR Job!
The EGR gase passages were plugged in the Inake.
